Scientific Team Lead
Lead a talented medical writing team to deliver high-quality, science-driven communications; shape strategy, mentor growth, and partner with clients to advance patient outcomes.
We are looking for a talented Scientific Team Lead to join Scientific Group in a pivotal role that combines strategic client partnership with scientific and editorial leadership. You will work closely with key immunology accounts as a trusted advisor, applying insight into client strategy to shape projects and proposals and deliver effective, innovative medical communications aligned with clients’ strategic outcomes. Alongside this, you will take overall responsibility for the quality of a broad range of medical communications deliverables. Drawing on your editorial expertise, attention to data integrity, and quality control experience, you will both contribute directly to projects and guide your team to produce work of consistently high scientific and editorial standard, adding real value for clients.
The role will involve:
Managing a team of medical writers to ensure efficient delivery of high-quality materials, incorporating regular performance and development review.
Performing internal review of materials and ensuring the delivery of accurate, concise and insightful material across a wide range of project types, audiences and formats.
Providing targeted hands-on input into projects as needed.
Collaborating with account management, creative and digital teams to scope, schedule and resource work, and deliver it to budget and deadline.
Forming strong client partnerships, and engaging in effective interactions with thought leaders and external teams.
Providing on-site or virtual medical writing support for meetings and events.
Applying understanding of specific therapeutic areas, and offering scientific/strategic leadership and support to members of the content team.
Providing input to business development activities and generating ideas for new and enhanced products and services, on an ad hoc basis.
Working with others on the senior team to identify training needs, contributing to training efforts, and ensuring team members work in line with agreed processes.
In order to succeed in this role, you will need the following skills and experience
MedComms agency experience is essential — applicants must have worked in a medical communications agency environment.
Strong background in immunology, with proven ability to work confidently in this therapy area.
Demonstrated experience in medical communications, including medical education, medical publishing, or healthcare advertising.
Proven line‑management experience, successfully supporting and developing medical writers and/or editors.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, accurate content.
Excellent organisational and planning skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
A genuine enthusiasm for communicating science, driven by a commitment to improving patient outcomes.
A life sciences degree (or equivalent) is essential; a higher degree (MSc, PhD) is highly desirable.
