Senior Account Manager 2
Lead strategic Medical Affairs accounts, drive client growth, deliver complex medical communications programmes, and mentor teams while developing your account leadership career.
The role of Senior Account Manager 2
Reports to: Account Director or Senior Account Director
We’re looking for a proactive and ambitious Senior Account Manager to lead key client accounts and deliver high‑quality medical communications projects. This role is ideally suited to a Senior Account Manager looking to make a sideways move. You will bring strong project leadership skills, scientific understanding, and a track record of successful account delivery and be ready to stretch into broader responsibility, greater autonomy, and team oversight.
As a Senior Account Manager 2, you will oversee the smooth delivery of complex, multi‑workstream projects - ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and exceptional standards at every stage. You will play a pivotal role in developing client relationships, shaping account strategy, driving financial performance, and mentoring junior team members.
The role will involve:
· Building and maintaining strong, trusted client relationships and acting as a key point of contact for both strategic and day-to-day discussions.
· Developing strong relationships with key client stakeholders, including Medical Affairs and Commercial teams where relevant.
· Leading client meetings, presentations and status calls with confidence and clarity.
· Providing strategic counsel and contributing to account planning to support long-term client objectives and programme success.
· Supporting global and affiliate market programmes, building relationships with diverse stakeholder groups and ensuring alignment across markets where applicable.
· Anticipating client needs, adding value proactively and identifying opportunities for account growth, including supporting business development activities, proposals, pitches and capabilities presentations.
· Supporting product, brand or data launch activities, from planning through to execution, where relevant to the account.
· Supporting Account Directors in shaping long-term account and project strategies.
· Overseeing end-to-end delivery of multiple, complex medical communications projects.
· Creating accurate project estimates, schedules and resource plans.
· Building strong partnerships with scientific, creative and digital teams to drive integrated, high-quality solutions for clients.
· Briefing and coordinating internal teams across content, creative and digital functions.
· Ensuring all outputs are high-quality, scientifically accurate, compliant and aligned with client expectations.
· Managing project budgets, financial performance, forecasting and profitability.
· Ensuring timely logging of costs, invoicing and reconciliations.
· Promoting best practice in communication, project management and client service across the team.
· Mentoring, line-managing and developing Account Managers, Account Executives and other junior team members, helping to build capability, confidence and excellence across the wider account team.
In order to succeed in this role, you will need the following:
· Scientifically literate, with a bachelor's degree or higher (preferably in biomedical sciences) or equivalent relevant experience.
· Proven experience within a medical communications agency, with strong exposure to Medical Affairs.
· Strong understanding of the healthcare environment, including Medical Affairs functions, Commercial stakeholder needs, compliance requirements and regulatory frameworks.
· Experience working across multiple therapy areas, with prior exposure to immunology being advantageous.
· Demonstrated success delivering a wide range of medical communications activities.
· Experience partnering with both Medical Affairs and Commercial stakeholders and understanding their differing priorities and requirements.
· Experience working with global and affiliate market teams and managing complex stakeholder networks would be advantageous.
· Exposure to product, brand or data launch activities, including cross-functional planning and execution, would be beneficial.
· Demonstrated commercial awareness, including the ability to identify opportunities for account growth and contribute to business development activities.
· Ability to provide strategic input and confidently communicate recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
· Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to develop trusted partnerships across clients, internal teams and external experts.
· Proactive, confident and able to build strong, positive relationships quickly with both clients and internal teams.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
· Experience mentoring, coaching or line-managing junior team members.
